On 17 August 2010 there was an amazing event held at the Suntec City halls-wrestling. International youths' physical and mental strengths were tested all on one mat, one arena, under one roof.
Physical strength was displayed when each competitor gave their utmost effort to bring their opponent down while mental strength was displayed when they stormed up stategies to destroy the competition.
Even thought the athletes were strong in their sport, they were also strong when the sport ended. The athletes displayed this power by showing respect for their opponent and their opponent's trainer, they showed friendship when they bonded with their opponents off the mat and they showed sportsmanship by showing that the match was a good and memorable one.
Furthermore, our eastspringian spectators showed their support and utmost respect for the athletes by cheering each every participator on, not thinking whether they were losing or not. In my opinion, tthe encouragement reached them and greatly affected their performance-positively of course. Since there was no jeering or discouragement, the athletes could perform at their very best.
The YOG is an event not to be missed, not only the wrestling event. If you have not been a spectator or been amongst the audience cheering, you are definitely missing out on a lifetime experience. So stop staring at your computer screen reading this and go get your ticket to the Youth Olympic Games!
